During the last Criminal Justice subcommittee meeting (Wednesday, Feb. 10th) the Criminal Justice Subcommittee welcomed as a guest speaker Dan Losey, West Palm Beach Police department’s legal advisor. Losey heads the Use of Force Review Board, which is comprised of nine experts. The Board reviews matters such as use of force on minors, discharge of firearms, and use of force that results in injury.

Criminal Justice subcommittee members discussed the possibility of forming a Civilian Complaint Review Board. Subcommittee members discussed other cities that have implemented similar review boards (e.g., Miami, New York City, etc.). Losey also mentioned the importance of having a Firearms Training Simulator (FATS) machine that can simulate real-life firearms training for police officers.
