At the Last Subcommittee Meeting…

You can find the previous meeting minutes here.

The Criminal Justice subcommittee had its last meeting on Wednesday, July 14th.

Subcommittee members were given an overview of the proposed timeline for developing policy ideas for Task Force review. The Task Force will begin reviewing the draft policy ideas submitted by each subcommittee during their August meeting. It is expected that the Task Force will finalize their recommendations by September 2021.

Members then discussed their top three ideas under their two priorities.

Under priority one, members discussed specifics for establishing a civilian review board and strategies to recruit and maintain a diverse team of police officers. The subcommittee’s guest speaker, Sergeant Deanna Rideau, a recruitment office for the West Palm Beach Police Department, shared the police department’s recruitment strategies. These efforts include attending career fairs at police academies and local colleges, posting advertisements online, and hosting Explorer and Cadet programs locally.

Under priority two, subcommittee members began a brief discussion on expanding the field training program and exploring training for police officers to address mental health crises. More details will be discussed at the upcoming subcommittee meeting.
