Previous Subcommittee Meeting Information

On Thursday, April 15th, the Education & Workforce Development subcommittee welcomed guest speakers

  • Mr. Fred Barch, Director of Adult and Community Education at the School District of Palm Beach County;
  • Principal Esther Rivera, Principal of Forest Hill High School and;
  • Ms. Karen Whetsell, the region’s Instructional Superintendent.

Mr. Barch discussed details about the Adult and Community Education Program, which provides pathways for adults to continue their education and get into the workforce. Principal Rivera discussed Forest Hill High School details, accomplishments, and challenges. Ms. Whetsell suggested ways the city can support schools like Forest Hills High School in the area.

The subcommittee is preparing their education survey, which they plan to send to parents, teachers, principals, and other members of the public. A draft list of questions for the education survey will be sent to members for review, as well as survey distribution recommendations. Subcommittee members were encouraged to promote the June 12th Action Summit and to give their recommendations on where to distribute Action Summit advertisements.

Upcoming Subcommittee Meeting Information

The next (virtual) Education & Workforce Development subcommittee meeting is next week on Thursday, May 20th, 2021 from 5:30 – 7 p.m.

The subcommittee will begin reviewing and prioritizing the recommendations/ideas they currently have, and there might be a guest speaker.
