At the Last Subcommittee Meeting…
You can find the previous meeting minutes here.
The Education & Workforce Development subcommittee had its last meeting on Thursday, July 15th.
Subcommittee members were given an overview of the proposed timeline for developing policy ideas for Task Force review. The Task Force will begin reviewing the draft policy ideas submitted by each subcommittee during their August meeting. It is expected that the Task Force will finalize their recommendations by September 2021.
Subcommittee members then began narrowing down their recommended policy ideas. The top three ideas under priority one were to create an accessible resource that includes information about all existing opportunities, leverage business partnerships to support programming, and eliminate barriers to accessing workforce development programs.
Under priority two, the subcommittee members discussed providing more robust mental health resources to students and the community, offering anti-bias, cultural sensitivity and de-escalation training to educators, and creating an education liaison position within the mayor’s office.
The subcommittee members also discussed the importance of getting more respondents for their survey in order to ensure that they are including the needs of the community in their recommendations.
There are two surveys, one for educators and school staff and one for parents, in English, Spanish, and Kreyol.
