Task Force Update

Mayor Keith James gave opening remarks at the most recent meeting of the Task Force on May 28th at 10 a.m. He spoke to the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder: the tragedy that spurred the creation of the Task Force. He then thanked Task Force members for working on educating the community about the city’s racial/ethnic history to create a more equitable future.

Subcommittee co-chairs then shared their subcommittee progress and updates. Members reviewed the proposed agenda for the June 12th Action Summit and were updated on community engagement efforts for Action Summit Outreach. Members asked clarifying questions about language accessibility and outreach in light of Florida’s Sunshine Laws.

Satellite locations (community sites) for the Summit were confirmed at the following locations. The purpose of offering these sites is to increase community participation and accessibility, so that those with limited or no Internet access or inexperience using Zoom can still participate. The sites include:

  • The West Palm Beach Police Athletic League (PAL) (youth only)
  • The Mandel Library
  • The Downtown Development Authority
  • The Esperanza Community Center
  • The South Olive Community Center
  • The Coleman Community Center
